ESPON Seminar

“A world without borders

Refugees, cooperation and territories”

in Luxembourg City, 8 and 9 December 2015

Policy makers, stakeholders, practitioners, scientists and experts who want to influence the European policy processes on territorial issues and support the use of territorial evidence for policy development are invited to gather and discuss policy themes relevant for regions and cities at the ESPON seminar.

The event is organised in cooperation with the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the EU within the framework of the ESPON 2020 Cooperation Programme.

Inspiring plenary sessions of the seminar are:

(1) Territorial aspects of refugee migration to Europe - Current refugee movements to Europe, opportunities and challenges;

(2) Cross-border cooperation: what can ESPON do to support? - The significance of European cross-border cooperation and the need for territorial evidence;

(3) ESPON territorial monitoring for European macro-regions - What kind of evidence do we need to support the further development of European macro-regional strategies?

Participants will also learn from the European Commission and the ESPON EGTC the transformative initiative taken for the implementation of the ESPON 2020 Programme, including the calls for tender.

The Luxembourgish EU Presidency will reflect upon the outcome of its term and the future two EU presidency countries will give an outlook on their ambitions.
