As part of the EU funded project “Improved Regional Statistics in the Republic of Modova” representatives of the National Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Regional Development Agencies and State Chancellery visited the ESPON EGTC on the 8th of April 2016.
The main objective of the project is to support Moldova in advancing its economic, social and territorial cohesion with focus on the development of the policy, legal and institutional framework for an effective development policy for Moldova's regions. As part of the project, a study visit to the European Commission DG Regio in Brussels and Eurostat and ESPON in Luxembourg was organised.
The visit to the ESPON EGTC aimed at learning about ESPON, its activities and tools as well as discussing the evidence and analyses related to the ITAN project which provided a profound knowledge on EU neighbour regions.
The Ministry briefly introduced both the National Strategy for Regional Development 2016-2020 and the regional statistics in Moldova.

The ESPON EGTC, as possible cooperation and future exchange of experience with a wider pan-European audience, invited Moldova’s representatives to attend the Seminar “Territory matters: Keeping Europe and its regions competitive” that takes place in Amsterdam on 16 and 17 June 2016 and is organized in cooperation with the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the EU. The event offers an excellent networking opportunity bringing together policy makers, academics and experts to discuss the competitiveness of European regions and to learn more about ESPON tools, evidence and data.
