The service contract resulting from this call for tenders called “Territorial impacts of natural disasters” shall contribute to further developing and improving the ESPON knowledge base. In that sense, it will also contribute to enhancing the European territorial evidence production through applied research and analysis in the framework of the Single Operation under the ESPON 2020 Cooperation Programme.

The service shall provide territorial analysis on the economic impact of natural disasters and insights on the best practices at territorial level related to disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. The main outcome should be pan-European evidence at territorial level on the direct and indirect economic losses of natural disasters, and territorial level analysis of best practices related to disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. Policy recommendations shall be developed as well on how to integrate results of this research into integrated place-based spatial development planning.

ESPON Projects and Tools Relevant for this Applied Research

It should be mentioned that the ESPON Climate project has explored the concepts of adaptation and vulnerability, and developed a set of recommendations on adaptive strategies for different types of territories. Two updates related to this were also produced: ESPON “Update of Maps and Related Data on Climate Change” and ESPON “Update of Natural Hazards” with the results being published in a separate report, featuring also in the ESPON flagship report – “ESPON Atlas 2014”.

Budget

The maximum available budget for this contract is EUR 700,000.00 (seven hundred thousand Euros), EXCLUSIVE of VAT but inclusive of all other taxes, disbursements, travel, accommodation and delivery costs.
